Buriram 2003
For FS2002

The Airport

This is the first airport I have designed that I have never actually been to. I originally started this at the
same time as I was designing my Ubon scenery. I used Buriram as a Guinea Pig for my ideas about what
I could do with the scenery. As a result, the buildings in the scenery may not be entirely accurate,
however, the general layout, apron and terminal location is correct. In any event, it is certainly an
improvement over the generic FS2002 airport… and let's face it – no one else was thinking about
designing scenery for this airport.

My trusty Lonely Planet guide book devotes barely 3 ½ pages to the entire province, of which half is spent
on the city. It says it has a population of 30,400 (hardly meriting an airport), and was an important part of
the Khmer empire during the Angkor period. It is often used as a stepping-off point to visit the restored
ruins at Phanom Rung, however, it's worth mentioning that only 2% of tourists ever visit Issan (northeast)
at all, so I imagine few have ever been there.

Thai Airways offers one daily flight to Buriram from Bangkok. It's not even on their "Where we fly" map,
but it is in their timetable and is actually a code-sharing flight with Air Andaman. The fare is 1800 baht one
way, 3600 return. The plane is a Fokker F50, and takes just over an hour. In contrast to most other Thai
domestic airlines (like Phuket Air, and Bangkok Air), Air Andaman seems to actually offer many flights to
non-tourit destinations like Buriram. For example, they fly to Surin which does not even have an airport
represented in FS2002.

Strangly enough, PB Air does have Buriram on it's route map, but the timetable doesn't list it.

According to the Department of Aviation, the airport is ony open from sunrise to sunset, so night landings
are not an option here, since I didn't add runway lighting. I was surprised to learn that it has ILS on
runway 04 – tune into 109.3 MHz.

Installation

Unzip to any folder you wish. Make sure se folder names is checked off in Winzip so that the proper
directories will be created for you. It should create a directory called uriram 2003 with subdirectories
called cenery and exture If this doesn happen for some reason, then just make a new directory called
uriram 2003 and create sub-directories names cenery and exture and place all the *.bgl files into the
cenery subdirectory and all the *.bmp files into the exture subdirectory. Go into FS2K and add the
scenery in the usual manner. If you don know how to do this, then RTFM or go to www.SurClaro and
there are tutorials that tell you how to do this. Flatten and exclude switches are not required for any of this
scenery.

AFCAD

I have included an AFCAD file for use at the airport. AFCAD is a program that modifies the parking and
taxiways at an airport for use by AI aircraft. Using AFCAD is beyond the scope of this document, but the
program comes with an excellent tutorial that even I was able to figure out, and installing AFCAD files is
very easy. Thai Flight Simulator

I strongly recommend that you drop by this site if you are interested in Thailand. He has collected many
sceneries for Thailand, most of which have been updated for FS2002. The people there have been very
helpful with all my development.
